Hi everyone,

I've uploaded my example of the flyer that I'm sending home with the kids during our Family Math Night activity. This is a scaled-down version of one of the activities that Rachel and I will be doing with them. Hopefully it's a success!

Below you will find my handouts I provided for Family Math Night.

Hi All,
Nikki and I had no paper handouts for our games, but I will describe the three games we had prepared.

1) We offered a bingo 1-10 game with 9, 16, and 25 squares. Boards included numbers as well as small pictures to count and indicate the number. I will see if Nikki will upload these boards. We used Cheerios for markers.

2) We also make a counting game with Cheerios. We labeled 5 popsicle sticks with numbers 1-5 and on the other side drew dots according to the number on the stick. We played a number of games with these including one to one corresponing of cheerios with dots, adding Cheerios from one stick to another value, counting out Cheerios according to the number on the stick, and more or less.

3) Using basic Chex mix, we asked students to sort out a handful and explain how they sorted their snack. We also asked which pile had the most and least.

Thanks,
Nikki Frank and Amy Edlefson

Class,
Here are four of the activities that were at one of the 3rd grade tables @ Family Math Night. The first activity "Racko" is actually a card game that can be purchased, the other three you can vary the materials used, the time, etc. to fit your need about estimation.
